Greek on the Street, in Boxpark, won the best takeaway in London category.
A Croydon kebab shop has been recognised as one of the best in the country after winning a top award at The British Kebab Awards 2018.
Greek on the Street, at the Boxpark food mall, won the best takeaway in London category at the awards ceremony on Monday night (March 12).
The restaurant was one of five Croydon businesses, as well as another just over the border in Wallington, nominated for the award.
Abra Kebabra, in Wickham Road, in Shirley; Planet Kebab, in Mitcham Road, in West Croydon; Kebab Centre, in Addington Road, in Selsdon; Brothers Kebab House, in Lower Addiscombe Road, in Addiscombe, and Wallington Express, in Stafford Road, Wallington all missed out.
A total of 12 finalists were competing for the sought-after prize.
Mananger of Greek on the Street Alexandra Barikou told the Advertiser in February that he was delighted to have made it onto the list of finalists, with the contenders chosen after being nominated by customers.
He said at the time: “If we win it’s going to be amazing. I think that our customers really appreciate what we’re trying to do here.
“We serve a lot of great value and high quality food and I think that that reflects in the service we bring.”
Greek on the Street was also among the 10 finalists in the category for customer satisfaction, but lost out to Uni Kebab in Southampton.
And Abra Kebabra’s Emrullah Sasmaz was left disappointed for the second time on the night after failing to win the chef of the year category.
The awards, held at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel, attracted more than 1,000 guests.
