How £400,000 will be spent to upgrade Thornton Heath Leisure Centre in massive revamp
Big improvements to the leisure facilities are now underway.
A huge makeover is under way at Thornton Heath Leisure Centre which will see £400,000 being spent on building and refurbishment works, a new spin room and the replacement of gym equipment.
Croydon Council is splashing on out on the revamp as much of the centre will be given a new look.
Within the gym, there will be new equipment and a functional fitness area, where people can exercise using items such as kettle bells, power bags, TRX and punch bags.
There will also be a new dedicated spin studio with all the old bikes being replaced.
A spokesperson for Croydon Council said: “The changing rooms at the leisure centre will be also refurbished with new lighting and flooring, with a new sauna relocated to create a better environment for users.
“New lights are being installed in the hallways, as part of Croydon’s and GLL’s commitment to be more energy efficient.”
The upgrade to the leisure centre is being delivered as part of the council’s long-standing contract with GLL, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
Councillor Oliver Lewis explained how the improvements should encourage more local people to use the facilities.
He said: “We know how highly our residents value our leisure centres, and we’re pleased to announce this latest investment which will significantly improve the facilities.
“Health and wellbeing are a big part of our ambition for Croydon to be a great place to live.
“I hope that with these improvements even more residents will take advantage of these facilities.”
