There will be no Southern trains to London Victoria for 12 DAYS over Christmas
Southern and Gatwick Express passengers will face major problems this Christmas.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, which is fantastic news unless you travel by rail.
Every festive period brings along its own rail challenges, with previous years playing host to London Bridge closures for Thameslink passengers and Crossrail closures at Paddington and other stations.
This festive season its Victoria station’s turn and there will be no Southern trains between Clapham Junction and London Victoria for 12 days over the holiday period, while station upgrades are carried out as well as track improvement work at Battersea Pier Junction.
The Gatwick Express will be shut down for all 12 days, while some Southern services will run from London Bridge and Clapham Junction instead, although commuters are being warned that these stations will be very busy over this period.
Passengers looking to get to and from the likes of East Croydon, Purley, Coulsdon South and Gatwick Airport will still be able to use Thameslink trains to and from London Bridge and Blackfriars. This means it is likely Thameslink services will also be busier than usual.
Disruption begins on Saturday, December 22, when a reduced service will run.
Victoria then remains closed to Southern services for 12 days, while an amended timetable runs to and from London Bridge.
