The full list of Mothercare stores in London at risk of closing
Around 2,500 jobs are at risk nationwide as the baby and maternity-wear store is set to call in administrators
Mothercare has announced 79 stores across the UK are at risk of closing as the company is set to go into administration.
Accountancy firm KPMG, which is acting as an advisor to Mothercare, confirmed on Monday (November 4) administrators would be called in, meaning 2,500 jobs are now at risk.
In London, 12 stores are potentially at risk of closing.
Mothercare has not confirmed what stores will close at this stage, although it is understood all are at risk of shutting.
It is not known if Mothercare will continue trading or if stores will close immediately once administrators are appointed.
The Mothercare Group has reportedly been trying for several months to find a buyer for its UK business, which represents only a small part of its overall group sales.
In recent times, Mothercare has transformed itself into an international franchising group and trades from 1,000 stores in about 50 countries.
Last year, Mothercare outlined plans to close 55 shops – putting around 900 jobs at risk – after making a loss of £36.3million.
Earlier this year, Mothercare sold off its Early Learning Centre business to The Entertainer for £13.5million.
